Taking inspiration from Spotify’s holiday tradition, let’s take a look at BK Nation’s 2024!
The holiday season is a time of reflection as much as it is a chance to unwind and prepare for the upcoming year. Around this time, the usual Christmas festivities tend to take over people’s lives, but one tradition has seemingly taken the world by storm. That is the lovely Spotify Wrapped series, which released its tenth version of the annual aggregation earlier this December.
Over the years, Wrapped has increased in popularity thanks to its innovative ways of outlining one's listening habits throughout the year. It’s a fun trip down memory lane, which highlights the ups and downs of your year through music. Personally, it’s not something that I’m counting down the days for, but when I get that notification signifying my year has been “Wrapped”, I’m instantly invested and usually pretty satisfied with the end result. Even if there’s some surprises that I wasn’t expecting (apparently I had a “psychedelic permanent wave indie” phase in February). Not to mention, it’s fun to compare your findings with peers.
Now, this year's iteration of Wrapped was met with criticism due to a seemingly overreliance on AI to compile people’s listening trends. Comparing it to previous versions, it was perhaps a little lackluster but I can appreciate the want to do something different, after all this was Spotify’s tenth edition. Nonetheless, the uproar about this year's version made us here at Bare Knuckle Nation think about our own trends. Obviously, instead of listening to music, we cover bare knuckle fighting. And instead of encompassing the entire year, we will start from when our site launched in April.
There were ups and downs, themes and surprises, along with learning experiences. But more than anything, it was a great year for bare knuckle as a whole. We’re grateful to cover it and hope 2025 brings even more moments for the growing sport.
So now without further ado, here is 2024 (Un)wrapped: Bare Knuckle Nation Edition.
BK Nation may have launched in April, but the seeds were planted well in advance. From the onset of 2024, bare knuckle was a focus of ours which eventually led to the inception of the website you're on today.
Adam Hunt led the way with over 90 articles (2025 will be mine).
The birth of BK Nation was met with open arms from fighters within the community. We've seen personalities shine in a space where fighters can be themselves, an opportunity that some fighters relish more than others...
But none more than BKFC Featherweight Champion Kai Stewart. "Hefty Bag" never hesitated to share his thoughts with us which is something we certainly appreciate, especially given the fact that he's a great interview. Not far behind is women's bare knuckle GOAT Christine Ferea who gave us no shortage of reasons to write about her greatness.
I'd be willing to bet this is true, but hey, the bare knuckle demographic is a passionate one.
For reference, that's like watching Shrek 10,201 times but you skip the credits once. We did the math.
The ever controversial pound for pound list has become a staple in our coverage of the bare knuckle ranks. We're well aware that the list won't please everyone. It's not supposed to. The wild world of bare knuckle needs an unbiased take on who's the best in the industry and we've done our best to provide that.
Happy Holidays!
