I play matchmaker again today, this time for BKFC!
BKFC has already dropped a bombshell on us with the announcement of KnuckleMania V set for January 25th. And while there are great matchups already announced on that card, there are even more events on the horizon for Q1 of 2025. Here are some matchups I hope are included when we finally get word.
1. David Mundell vs Mike Perry
Enough is enough. These two have history, fighting both as amateur and pro MMA fighters with Perry winning both times by TKO. But now it's Mundell who holds the advantage as he is currently the BKFC Middleweight champion. There are also clips circulating of the two of them exchanging “pleasantries” in person when they run into each other at events, adding more fuel to the fire. Perry has been out of action since KnuckleMania IV so to reassert himself into the bare knuckle picture with a title shot against Mundell it's a massive fight for him, the champion and the sport of bare knuckle. Redneck vs. Platinum. Book it.
2. Carlos Trinidad-Snake vs. Jake Lindsey
CTS is currently the #1 Ranked welterweight contender, but a title shot at Trout is not something to be taken lightly. In my eyes, he is still without that really emphatic win that warrants that opportunity. Despite the squeaky clean record of 6-0, I may be in the minority but I still don’t think he’s ready for Trout. Lindsey is coming off a big win over Elvin Brito, if he were to take out Trinidad-Snake that's two massive wins and more than enough to book his ticket to a bout with Trout. And on the flipside, if CTS takes out a tough customer like Lindsey that could be the sign that it’s time to give him his chance.
3. Zach Calmus vs Josh Watson
Two heavyweights on big runs right now, with Calmus winning four straight and Watson successful in his last three. While this one might not have the title implications of others on the list, this fight would be fireworks. Two heavyweights that are more than willing to stand toe-to-toe in the middle of the ring and throw down would be an early candidate for Fight of the Year in 2025. If and when this fight gets made, both stocks would rise as the crowd favourites would continue to grow their following with performances only they are capable of putting on.
4. Sarah Shell vs Natalie Gage
This is lazy matchmaking by me, I admit it, as these two ar the only top 5 contenders who haven't had a title shot yet. But we only saw Strawweight Champion Britain Hart once last year, and that was to face Taylor Starling who had just one win 115-lbs. If there was another clear contender for her, it may draw the champ back to the squared circle quicker. It’s always healthy for a division if the champion stays active, and if Shell and Gage would face off that would result in a clear contender. 2-0 vs 2-0, winner gets a shot at the belt, case closed.
5. Alex The Terrible vs. ANYONE
Just like yesterday’s list, I left it open ended for one option. Alex is the lead singer of the heavy metal band Slaughter to Prevail and I’ll be honest I hadn’t heard of them until it was announced he had signed with BKFC. But once that news had dropped I was really excited to see him fight. There are clips online of his training and it’s clear he is ready to go. It’s been months since the news broke he had signed, let the man fight!
