BKFC 63: MATCHMAKER PREDICTS FIGHT OF THE NIGHT

Nate Shook shares some insight into what fans can expect from BKFC 63.

Zach Calmus lands a punch.

Bare Knuckle Nation had the privilege of speaking with BKFC Matchmaker Nate Shook ahead of BKFC 63. While we have already done a massive breakdown of the card with Shook, there was still a few extra questions we had for the man who orchestrated the entire card. We ask his prediction for fight of the night, what fight has the highest stakes, and what fight is he looking forward to the most. Below is our Q&A with Shook.

Answers have been edited for brevity and clarity.

Adam Hunt: What do you think is going to be the fight of the night?

Nate Shook: It's hard for me to bet against Zach Calmus. Win, lose or draw. Sometimes you get a fighter who's super aggressive like Zach or who doesn't mind getting punched, and it changes the gameplan of the opponent. I don't see that in Paul Shaugh. I think that he’s not going to be intimidated. He knows what he's getting into. and I think these two guys will probably be fight of the night.

The fight right before that Donnie Tice jr. vs Brandon Conley definitely has a chance as well. But Conley has never had a bare knuckle fight. And as you know, the first time someone gets hit, bare fist, it could change things up. So, my, my prediction for fight of the night, it's always going to be Zach Calmus if he's on the card for sure.

Hunt: As a fan, what's the fight you're most excited for?

Shook: So build up wise? JD Burns and Sam Shewmaker. Yeah, it's just Burns is a guy who likes to joke around leading up to a fight. So that's a fight I'm really excited for, two heavyweights and they already fought. There's no bad blood there that I know of anyway. But, I'm expecting the memes to go back and forth.

Hunt: The final one is obviously we talked about there's a championship fight at the top of the card. But looking at the rest of the card, which fight do you think has the highest stakes title contention wise?

Shook: I think the most implications to it is probably Michael Larrimore vs. Derrick Perez. If Larrimore wins, then I think he makes an argument for being a top five fighter in the weight class, and a clear path to a title. When we look at, the opening two fights, I think they're too early in their bare knuckle careers. Zack Calmus, if he wins, could start staking an argument for being in title contention with another fight or two.

Or Josh Dyer and Will Albrecht. Because with that one, if Dyer's dominant, he could make the claim he already beat the champ, he's coming off a win, he wants the next fight. And if Will wins, he can make the claim that I beat the guy, who beat the champ previously, I'm undefeated, I'm not getting any younger, give me a shot.
