One fight to complete the BKFC championship table.
October 25th is the date, Denver Colorado is the location for BKFC 67 which will see Chris Camozzi and Sawyer Depee enter the squared circle as contenders and will see one of them leave it as BKFC Cruiserweight Champion. Cruiserweight is the only active division without a champion but in just a few days time that will no longer be the case and every weight class will have a ruler.
Chris Camozzi was unsuccessful in his lone title shot against former champion Lorenzo Hunt, but Hunt has now relinquished the belt due to an arm injury and for testing positive for PEDs following his bout at KnuckleMania IV. Depee on the other hand is fighting for the world title for the first time despite a 5-2 record and a three fight win streak.
On Depee's side is everything a fan could want, a fast-paced exciting fighter always looking to score a knockout, all five of his wins have come in the first round. His two losses are by stoppage so even in a losing effort, there is excitement. And as I had mentioned previously this is his first title shot after seven fights, while his opponent Camozzi is going into his second in just his fourth fight, it's very possible that we see Depee with a little chip on his shoulder proving to everyone this chance to win the title should've come a long time ago.
Camozzi is a big frame for the division, and is exceptionally strong, especially when he’s in the clinch frequently out muscling his opponents. His wealth of combat experience in kickboxing and a lengthy stint in the UFC makes him an always dangerous opponent no matter the sport.
Camozzi is sound fundamentally keeping a high guard and looking to enter the clinch and work from there. Depee on the other end keeps his hands lower looking to fire hooks around the outside and over the top of his opponent’s prods. While it is the fight and you never know until the fight actually happens I have a hard time believing this one goes the distance no matter who the visitor is.
The co main event will see welterweights Brandon Girtz and Cameron Van Camp look to add the second win of their careers. Both men took a loss in their debuts, but bounced back with KO victories in their follow up bouts. Given the platform of a co main event on a numbered event, one would think we will see the best version of each man, with the winner setting himself up for a big fight in Q1 of 2025.
A personal favourite of mine, Hasan Al-Ghanim makes his third appearance after two knockout victories to start his career, including one that will be in the running for KO of the Year. The Canadian standout will be fighting in the United States for the first time so expect him to seize the moment and add another KO to his already impressive resume. Considering the lightweight division is wide open, he may be closer to a Top 5 ranking than it may seem.
