The last vacant title in BKFC’s catalog will finally have a new owner.
On August 27th, BKFC’s instagram announced that Chris Camozzi and Sawyer Depee will face off for the vacant BKFC Cruiserweight Title on October 25th, in Denver Colorado.
Camozzi spent more than 15 years in the professional MMA game, including three stints in the UFC where he would compete a total of 19 times. But the 37 year old has now transitioned to the bare knuckle fighting scene, holding a 2-1 record with his only loss coming in a title fight. Which came against the now suspended, and stripped, former champion Lorenzo Hunt. So with a fresh outlook and another crack at the title, Camozzi could see his championship aspirations realized should he be able to take down the surging contender Depee.
After taking nearly a full year off following his defeat to Quentin Henry back in the summer of 2022, Depee has rattled off three straight victories, earning him his first championship opportunity in bare knuckle. His notable wins include stoppages over Keegan Vandermeer, Jonathan Miller and James Dennis.
Between the two of them, every single one of their victories have come by first round knockout. Yes. Seriously. Seven wins and seven first round stops. So if this one gets past the first round, who knows what's going to happen? When these two talented knockout artists step into the ring, the fans should be prepared for an absolute thriller.
There are two sides to this championship bout on full display. For the veteran Camozzi, he has been given a second chance to claim this title. Despite age meaning nothing in bare knuckle, and the fact that he keeps himself in tremendous shape, he has been competing professionally for nearly 20 years. The end could be near and this may be the last time he competes for a world title. For Depee, a setback in his first championship fight could spell disaster with the sport of bare knuckle being an ever unpredictable revolving door. Who knows what the division will look like a year or even six months from now. The heavy handed contender must strike while the iron is hot and assert himself as the new sheriff in town.
While the rest of the card has yet to be announced, with this main event alone October 25th in Denver Colorado is sure to be can’t miss action.
