One of bare knuckle's best has her next challenger in place.
Christine Ferea is the most accomplished women's bare knuckle fighter ever. With a background in MMA, “Misfit” would enter BKFC at just their third event ever BKFC 3. Eager to prove herself in this new sport, fans would see a debut that won’t soon be forgotten.
After her emphatic KO, she returned just 6 months later and would pick up another win, this time over a scrappy Britain Hart.
In her third bout, Ferea would enter a war with Helen Peralta and while she scored a knockdown, it wouldn’t be enough dropping a unanimous decision.
It was after this fight that a switch flipped in Ferea. No longer entering exchanges wildly but taking a calm, collected approach, trusting her ridiculous power to jump on openings. She would gain respect early on and wait for her opponent to push the issue only to be met with devastating counter attacks. That’s not to say she got complacent. When she smells blood in the water it’s as good as over.
After collecting back-to-back KO’s Misfit would match up with old foe Britain Hart, who had gone on a four-fight win streak since their first meeting. And this time there would be an added bonus, the inaugural BKFC Flyweight championship was on the line.
Ferea would once again get the better of Hart and collect her first world title in bare knuckle, a win that has only gotten better with age, with Hart going on to become a dominant champion at 115.
With her newly acquired belt on the line, Ferea would face surging contender Taylor Starling. Undefeated with a KO to her record as well, Starling was looked at at the new generation of bare knuckle talent looking to push out the then 39 year old champ.
After a heated fight week and a faceoff that would get any combat fan riled up, it was clear we were in for a war. And then the bell rang.
Her most dominant performance to date in her first title defence reminded everyone that the belt she had worked so hard for wasn’t going anywhere.
Eight months later she would defend her title again this time against another one of bare knuckles all time greats, Bec Rawlings. Although there was a sense of unfinished business after this one with the doctor calling a stop to the contest due to a cut over Rawlings eye. Ferea however would leave no doubt in the rematch taking a clear decision on the cards.
Her eight wins under the BKFC banner are second only to Britain Hart's nine, and her three title defences are only matched by Hart, but given the two wins over her rival, Ferea stands alone at the top.
But now, on September 6th at BKFC 65 another challenger has arisen in the form of Jade Masson-Wong who is coming off of dominant back to back victories that showcased her abilities perfectly. Taking a clear decision over Taylor Starling and following that up with a bulldozing knockout of Gabriele Roman in under 60 seconds. But the champ is used to this pressure, a young hungry contender looking to flip the script on the established star, and we’ve seen how that goes.
Coming into this defense on a six fight win streak with four stoppages, and her name littered across the record books, win, lose, or draw at BKFC 65, Ferea will likely put on a performance that will not be forgotten.
