BYB 30 MAIN EVENT REACTION

LT Nelson shocks the Cardiff crowd with a massive KO victory!

BYB 30 official poster.

August 17th at BYB 30, we saw the return of Barrie Jones back into the bare knuckle scene when he would face BYB two-division champion LT Nelson in a bout marked as the favourite for “Fight of the Year.” However, what was originally slated as a 50/50 fight with razor-thin margins got pretty uncompetitive pretty quickly.

Nelson used his experience in the Trigon to his advantage, keeping Jones stuck in corners where he could really pour it on; that was what decided this one. When they were back in the centre of the ring, Jones was able to mount some offence, but Nelson made it a dirty fight very quickly.

When the third round rolled around, Jones had already been knocked down, and then, mid-flurry, Nelson threw one of the hardest punches of the fight that snapped the head of Jones straight back, and he crumbled to the floor. The referee eventually counted to 10, and the fight was over.

With the exception of just a few moments, this fight really wasn't overly close. Barrie had no fix for when he was cornered, and LT was able to wear him out with his suffocating pressure.

Post-fight, we got a retirement from Barrie Jones, who was very disappointed in his performance, actually taking time to apologize to the fans in Cardiff and his sons, who were there to see him compete for the first time.

For Nelson, his stock continues to take a huge rise like it has for the past year. Does this win over this version of Barrie Jones make him the number one pound-for-pound fighter in all of bare knuckle? Well, I intend to at least attempt to answer this question tomorrow with an article about this very topic. But given the overwhelming nature of his performance, one has to think that moving to number one is a very real possibility.

In the end, LT and his indestructible chin, unwavering pressure, mixed with underrated accuracy and deceiving power, took down the 10-0 Jones, handing him his first career loss in bare knuckle and earning Nelson the biggest win of his career.
