“Queen of Violence” Throne to Remain Vacant

Just 17 days before BKFC 61, it’s been announced that the main event between Heather Hardy and Flyweight Champion Christine Ferea has been postponed due to an injury to Hardy. While it wasn’t disclosed by BKFC, Ferea took to Instagram just a few hours after the announcement to let her fans know that she wasn’t the injured one. It seems that no replacement will be found with BKFC having already moved Jimmie Rivera vs. Daniel Straus to the main event.

While it’s definitely a downer for BKFC fans, this main event is nothing to ignore. This is a case of the records not telling the full story. Both are former MMA fighters who found reasonable success in that sport with Rivera fighting in the UFC 11 times going 7-4. While Straus would spend the prime of his career fighting in Bellator winning their featherweight title twice.
Since moving to bare knuckle Rivera has gone 1-1-1 with his most recent outing being a doctor's stoppage loss to Jeremy Stephens, a fellow UFC vet. Straus is still looking for his first victory in the gloveless game but had a spirited bout in his debut with former champion Dat Ngyuen. The match was so close, it required a tie-breaking sixth round.
These are two very capable individuals, eager to right the ship of their BKFC careers. And with the event happening at the combat sports mainstay, Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut, the atmosphere will only add to the performances we will see.
As a final note, the fight between Hardy and Ferea has been postponed, not canceled.
