My predictions for who is next up in each weight class.
As promised, here is Part 2 of my predictions for the next title challengers of each BKFC weight class. Today we’ll go from welterweight to heavyweight! Missed part one? No Problem! For strawweight to lightweight click here.
Welterweight - Carlos Trinidad-Snake
I thought that CTS would be welterweight champion Austin Trout's first defence. The Rico Franco shot kind of came out of nowhere but it was warranted. Now that Trout has defended his title, and CTS just picked up a win on November 9th, it's time for these two to meet. Trout is, for my money, the best bare knuckler on the planet so CTS certainly has his work cut out for him, but a natural finisher like him could potentially give Trout problems. Pretty cut and dry, Trinidad-Snake was the number one ranked welterweight before his win on the 9th, and he still is after, he’s next in line.
Middleweight - Dakota Cochrane
Before the numbskulls who say Mike Perry should be next, he has been “next” for about two years now and the fight with David Mundell hasn’t happened. It’s been clear for a while that Mike Perry’s dance card is reserved for big names only, and unfortunately, outside of the bare knuckle circles Mundell isn’t a huge name in the grand scope of things. Cochrane has done all the right things by taking tough fights, collecting knockouts, and most importantly, he hasn’t fought the champion yet. Two power-punching knockout specialists in Cochrane and Mundell is a perfect fight to show off just how good the middleweight division can be.
Light Heavyweight - Josh Dyer
Champ Jared Warren is set to square off with former interim champion Mike Richman. Despite Warren being in the championship picture for a long time, even if he comes up on the losing end of his clash with Dyer, I don’t think an immediate rematch is warranted. While I certainly won’t complain if I get to see Warren and Mike Richman fight twice, the logical next in line is Josh Dyer. He currently holds a win over Warren, and fought for the vacant title against him a second time, although the fight would end in a No-Contest.
Cruiserweight - Lorenzo Hunt
Despite the suspension, the only standout name in the cruiserweight Top 5 is former champion Lorenzo Hunt. Other reasons include the fact that Hunt would make the current champion Camozzi the most money as he is one of the biggest names in all of bare knuckle. It’s also the only loss of Camozzi’s bare knuckle career, giving the champ his highest profile opponent possible while also getting a chance to rectify his lone loss. The only reason this wouldn’t be next would be if Camozzi doesn’t want to stay on ice that long, and defends against another name at 205. But in a perfect world “The Juggernaut” will be next at cruiserweight.
Heavyweight - Ben Rothwell
Both champion Mick Terrill and Ben Rothwell have publicly declared they are just waiting for a date, so this one is less of a prediction and more of a report. Obviously anything can happen and if an injury happens to either combatant, Leonardo Perdomo will certainly be waiting in the weeds. A stark contrast in build from the 5’11 Perdomo to the 6'4 Rothwell, champion Mick Terrill has a lot of homework to do in order to prepare for either man.
